Quick answer

How long does it take to build a new pool in Orlando?

D&J The Pool Resurfacers (Florida license CPC1459797) builds custom inground pools in Orlando from permits to first swim. Permit approval in Central Florida can take up to two months, and from the day permits are approved the build takes three months minimum: excavation, steel, plumbing, electrical, concrete, a pebble, quartz or polished interior finish and the chemical start-up.

It starts well before the first shovel hits the ground.

Permits in Central Florida can take up to two months to approve. We handle that process as part of every project, so you're not chasing paperwork.

From the day permits are approved, the minimum construction timeline is three months. If you want your pool ready for a specific season, the earlier you start the conversation, the more control you have over the schedule.

Every pool we build is designed around your property, your family and the way you want to use your outdoor space: a sunshelf for lounging, a spa, wide steps, LED lighting for evening swims, and a deck that ties it all together.

What we build, start to finish

  • Permits, handled by us
  • Excavation
  • Steel reinforcement
  • Plumbing and electrical work
  • Concrete application
  • Interior finish in pebble, quartz or polished
  • Chemical start-up after the pool is filled
  • Optional features: sunshelf, spa, steps and LED lighting

Is a new custom pool right for you?

A new pool is a long project and a long-term investment. It's a good fit if most of these sound like you.

  • You want a pool designed around your yard and how your family actually uses it
  • You can plan ahead: up to two months for permits, then three months minimum to build
  • You want features like a sunshelf, a spa, wide steps or LED lighting built in from the start
  • You want a durable pebble, quartz or polished interior finish
  • You'd rather have one licensed team manage everything from permits to first swim
  • You're thinking about the deck, a summer kitchen or a screen enclosure as part of the same plan
  • You have a season or date in mind and want to work backwards from it

How is a new pool built, phase by phase?

One team from the first conversation to the first swim. The build itself takes three months minimum from the day permits are approved.

  1. First conversation

    Design and quote

We look at your property and how you want to use it: size, shape, layout, finishes and features like steps, lighting or a spa. Then you get a clear quote. You can pick tile and finish samples in person at our Orlando showroom.

  2. Up to 2 months

    Permits

We file and follow the permits. Work can't legally begin until the permit is issued, and in Central Florida approval can take up to two months.

  3. Once approved

    Site preparation and excavation

The area is cleared, the pool layout is marked and access is prepared for equipment. Then the ground is excavated to the shape and depth of the design.

  4. Structure

    Steel reinforcement

The steel reinforcement that gives the pool its structural strength is assembled before the concrete goes in.

Steel rebar and wooden forms in a large excavated pool, with plumbing stubs in place
  5. Rough-in

    Plumbing and electrical work

Underground plumbing and electrical work are installed. Inspections happen at several points before work moves on.

  6. Shell

    Concrete application

Concrete is applied over the steel framework to form the shell of your pool.

  7. Finish

Tile and a pebble, quartz or polished interior

Tile goes in, then the interior finish in pebble, quartz or polished, applied and smoothed by hand. Features like a sunshelf, spa, steps and LED lighting are already part of the build.

  8. First swim

    Fill and chemical start-up

The pool is filled and the chemical start-up begins. We tell you when the pool is ready for regular use.

Design complexity, permit approval time, weather and material availability all influence the schedule. We build the permit timeline into the plan from day one, so there are no surprises.

Features that make it yours

A sunshelf for lounging in the shallows, a spa, wide entry steps, LED lighting for evening swims. We integrate them into the design from the start, not as an afterthought.

Which interior finish should your new pool have?

Every pool we build gets a pebble, quartz or polished interior. The finish is the surface you see and touch every day, so it's worth choosing with care.

What affects the cost of a new pool in Orlando?

Two pools of the same size can differ a lot in total investment. Most of the difference comes from decisions made in the first design conversation, and we walk you through each one before the permit application goes in.

  • Size and shape

A rectangular pool is less complex to build than a freeform design of the same size: straight lines need less formwork, cutting and labor.

  • The ground under your property

Central Florida soil, the water table and fill soil in newer subdivisions affect excavation and the structural engineering of the shell.

  • Materials at every level

Plumbing, equipment, coping, deck and the interior finish are each separate choices that change the total scope.

  • Features and design complexity

Sun shelves, spas, waterfalls, grottos and outdoor living elements each add to the project scope.

  • Deck and outdoor living

Building the deck, a summer kitchen or a screen enclosure together with the pool is part of the same plan and budget.

How to plan for a new pool, and what to expect at home

A new pool changes your backyard for months, not days. Knowing the phases ahead of time makes the whole project calmer.

Before permits

  • Think about how you'll use the pool: laps, lounging, kids, evening swims
  • Decide which features matter to you: sunshelf, spa, steps, LED lighting
  • If you live in an HOA, check your community's architectural review rules early
  • Count back from your target season: up to two months of permits plus three months minimum to build

During construction

  • Work starts only after the permit is issued
  • Expect equipment access to the backyard and a cleared, marked work area
  • Inspections are required at several points before work moves on
  • Keep children and pets away from the site while the crew is working

Before the first swim

  • The pool is filled and the chemical start-up begins
  • No swimming until we confirm the start-up is complete
  • Brush the new surface once or twice a day during the first week
  • No automatic cleaners or toys during the first four weeks while the surface cures
