Founded by Mauro Zelaya, a proud Honduran Latino, D&J started in 2014 in the garage of his own home. The name “D&J” comes from the initials of his children—a daily reminder of what inspired him to take a bold leap into entrepreneurship.
From Employee to Entrepreneur
Before starting his own business, Mauro worked for another pool company, where he learned the skills and knowledge that would lay the foundation for D&J. The early days were a time of self-learning and determination. Like any new venture, there were highs and lows, but Mauro held onto a motto that guided him:
“The world belongs to the brave.”
Fueled by passion for his work and the support of his family, Mauro began taking on small, daily projects. Slowly, the business grew, and he started hiring young, motivated team members to help with the increasing workload.
Growth and Expansion
As the company expanded, D&J partnered with The Pool Specialist, sharing a warehouse and collaborating on projects for two years. By 2019, Mauro was ready to take the next step: purchasing his own equipment, moving into his own warehouse, and fully operating independently.
The growth was impressive: in 2015, the team was just 5 employees, and by 2022, it had grown to 98. Even during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, D&J remained stable and continued to work steadily.
From Subcontractor to Trusted Partner
Initially, D&J worked behind larger companies as a subcontractor. Over time, with hard work and dedication, the company built a reputation that allowed them to work directly with clients. Today, D&J proudly offers:
