1. If You’re Staying Home — Keep It Guest-Ready
If your pool will be part of your celebrations, a few small steps will make a big difference:
✅ Shock your pool 2–3 days before guests arrive to keep the water crystal clear.
✅ Check the filtration system — clean the skimmer baskets and make sure your pump runs at least 8 hours a day.
✅ Add an enzyme product to help remove oils or sunscreen left behind by swimmers.
And remember: more people in the pool means more chlorine demand, so test levels daily during back-to-back gatherings.
2. If You’re Traveling — Prevent Problems Before You Go
Leaving town? Don’t let your pool become a “green surprise.”
Here’s what we recommend before packing your bags:
Run a full cleaning cycle the day before you leave.
Lower the water level slightly to account for rain or evaporation.
Use a pool cover if you’ll be away more than a week.
Ask a neighbor or hire a maintenance service to check chlorine and debris once a week.
You’ll come back to clear water — not an algae bloom.
3. Watch the Weather — Even in Orlando
While Florida winters are mild, unexpected cold fronts can sneak up on you.
If temperatures drop below 50°F, reduce filtration hours slightly but don’t shut the system off completely.
Running the pump for at least a few hours a day prevents pipes from freezing and keeps water circulating evenly.

The end of the year is the perfect time for a quick inspection.
